Sourdough Ciabatta and Socks

Shame on me for letting so much time go between posts. It isn’t as though I haven’t been eating or cooking. Honestly, the evidence is often gone before I even think of taking a picture of it.

I had a very productive weekend, and I did manage to take a picture of the amazing sourdough ciabatta I managed to make, all thanks to this recipe found at the Wild Yeast blog: http://www.wildyeastblog.com/2008/07/28/sourdough-ciabatta-rolls/. What a heavenly recipe! What heavenly little pillows of bread. Rarely do I have such luck with sourdough. This recipe is a keeper. I was worried that the dough was too wet as I was making them, but I’m glad I resisted the urge to add more flour. They turned out perfectly. Inside, the rolls had beautiful large holes and though I thought the ciabatta had a tough look after it came out of the oven, they were quite soft, yet still a bit chewy, and had a fantastic, but somewhat mild, sourdough flavour. These toasted up great for days afterwards as well. We made Boston Brute-type sandwiches with them that night (which I forgot to take a snapshot of), with genoa salami, rosemary ham, pepperoni, sauteed onion and green pepper, a little pizza sauce on the roll itself, and some cheese of course, then broiled open-faced for a minute before slapping the two halves together.

And after devouring the delectable sandwiches, I managed to finish up my second pair of socks from the book Around the World in Knitted Socks. Socks are my newest favourite thing to knit. I’ve never been a plain white sock kind of girl, and I hope to eventually replace all my regular socks with knit socks as colourful as these ones. The colour work was much easier to do than I expected. If I had known, I would’ve attempted colour work a long time ago. The socks fit great too, unlike my first pair which ended up a little baggy in the heel.
