Finished a new project this past week that I call the plum throw. It was inspired at least in part by kantha throws. Kantha throws are made from vintage saris and stitched together to make blankets. They are incredibly beautiful and I love the way that different patterns and colours come together in those throws. In an effort to bring some of those elements in, I chose to construct the blanket with four sections that have distinct patterns and then stitch them together. We’ve got a couple of lacy sections in the middle, some stranded colourwork, and a bit of herringbone for the edge.
It ended up being quite a nice weight and size (about 52″ x 60″), so I think I’d be great as a picnic blanket, small bedspread, or it would even work as a throw rug in the right room, especially if you sewed a non-slip backing to it.
